Why Register for SMS
Most clients respond to texts faster than emails. Once registered, FieldPlexus automatically texts invoice links when you send and receipt confirmations when you mark paid. It is included in the subscription. No extra charge per message.
Before You Start: Gather This Info
Having this ready makes the form take 5 minutes instead of 30.
- Legal business name exactly as registered with the state
- Whether you are a sole proprietor or an LLC/Corporation
- EIN (9 digits, format XX-XXXXXXX) if you have one
- Business address
- Your name, email, phone
- A public URL to your business: website, Facebook Business page, or Google Business Profile
The Sole Proprietor Trap
This is the #1 reason registrations get rejected. "Sole proprietor" does NOT mean "I work alone." It is a legal business structure.
Simple test: Did you file paperwork with your state to create an LLC, Corporation, or Partnership?
- YES → You are NOT a sole proprietor. Select No on the form.
- NO → You ARE a sole proprietor. Select Yes on the form.
If your business bank account says "LLC" at the end, you are an LLC, even if you work alone.
Step-by-Step: Filling Out the Form
- Go to Settings in the sidebar
- Tap the Text Messaging tab
- Fill in Legal Business Name (exactly as registered — "Mike's Mowing LLC" not "Mike's Mowing")
- Answer Are you a Sole Proprietor? (see the test above)
- If No, select Business Type from the dropdown (LLC, Corporation, Partnership, etc.)
- If Yes, select your Industry/Vertical (pick Landscaping or Home & Garden Services for landscaping and lawn care)
- Enter your EIN in XX-XXXXXXX format (leave blank if sole proprietor without one)
- Enter Business Address, City, State, ZIP
- Enter your Contact Information (your name, email, phone, job title "Owner," job position "CEO")
- Enter your Online Presence URL (website, Facebook Business page, or Google Business profile)
- Review everything one more time
- Tap Submit
What Counts as an Online Presence URL
Carriers need proof your business is real. Acceptable URLs include your own website, a PUBLIC Facebook Business page, a Google Business Profile, Yelp, or Nextdoor. Personal Facebook profiles do not count. Instagram alone is not always accepted.
No online presence at all? Create a free Google Business Profile at business.google.com. Takes about 10 minutes and shows up when customers Google your name.
What Happens After You Submit
Two approval steps, both automated:
- Brand Verification (1–2 business days) — carriers verify your business exists
- Campaign Approval (1–7 business days) — carriers review the message types
Total time is usually 3–10 business days. When approved, FieldPlexus automatically buys you a dedicated phone number (local area code when possible) and the status flips to Active.
Can I Fill It Out During My Free Trial?
Yes, and you should. Your info saves and registration starts automatically when you activate your paid subscription. That way you skip the 3–10 day wait.
If You Get Rejected
The Text Messaging page shows exactly what went wrong and offers an Edit & Resubmit button. Most rejections come from the sole proprietor vs LLC mix-up, a business name that does not match public records, or an online presence URL that is not publicly accessible. Fix the issue and resubmit.
After You Are Active
Existing clients do not automatically start getting texts. Go to Clients and use the Bulk SMS Consent button to send opt-in requests. Each client must reply YES before they receive invoice or receipt texts. New clients added going forward get the opt-in request automatically.
