Four Ways to Import

Typing clients in one at a time is fine for five clients. For 50 or 500, use import. Go to Clients → Import Clients (top right, next to + Add Client). You get four methods to choose from:

  1. Upload a File — CSV or Excel spreadsheet
  2. Paste Text — messy notes, emails, or text messages
  3. Start Fresh (Template) — Google Sheets template with all the right columns
  4. Quick Add — type a handful directly

The maximum per batch is 200 clients. More than that, do multiple rounds.

Method 1: Upload a File

Best for large client lists from Jobber, Housecall Pro, or any other field service app. Export from the old app (usually under Settings or Data Export), then upload the CSV or Excel file here.

  1. Go to Clients → Import Clients
  2. Tap the Upload a File card
  3. Drag and drop the file, or tap Choose File
  4. AI analyzes the column headers and suggests mappings
  5. Review each mapping and fix any wrong ones with the dropdown
  6. Tap Looks Good
  7. Preview screen shows every client
  8. Tap Import X Clients

Supported file types: .csv, .xlsx, .xls.

Method 2: Paste Text

Perfect for notes that never made it into a spreadsheet. Copy and paste whatever you have — text messages, email signatures, business card dumps. The AI extracts names, phones, emails, and addresses.

  1. Go to Clients → Import Clients
  2. Tap the Paste Text card
  3. Paste your content into the text box
  4. Tap Extract Clients
  5. Review the extracted list and tap Import X Clients

Limit: about 20 clients per paste. Paste more than that and the AI extraction can time out. For 100 messy clients, do 5 batches.

Method 3: Start Fresh (Template)

Cleanest option. Includes a dedicated tab for parent-child relationships.

  1. Go to Clients → Import Clients
  2. Tap the Start Fresh card
  3. Tap Open Template in Google Sheets
  4. In Google Sheets, click File → Make a copy
  5. Delete the example rows in the Template tab
  6. Enter your clients
  7. Click File → Download → Comma-separated values (.csv)
  8. Back in FieldPlexus, tap Upload Your Completed File

Template columns: Name, Email, Phone, Address, City, State, Zip, Notes, Is Parent, Parent Name, Autopay.

Method 4: Quick Add

For 5 to 15 clients where you just need name, phone, and email. No addresses, no notes.

  1. Tap Import Clients → Quick Add
  2. Fill in the rows with name, phone, and email
  3. Tap + Add More Rows if needed
  4. Tap Continue
  5. Review and tap Import X Clients

Column Mapping Screen

After a file upload, you see the mapping screen. Each column from your file is paired with a FieldPlexus field. Common names ("Name," "Phone," "Email") map automatically. Fix anything wrong with the dropdown, or set Skip this column to ignore it.

FieldPlexus fields: Client Name (required), Email, Phone, Address, City, State, ZIP Code, Notes, Is Parent (Y/N), Parent Name, Autopay.

The Preview Screen

Shows every client before import. Stats at the top: Total Rows, Ready to Import, With Notes. Blue rows have informational notes (usually "no contact info") but still import. Rows missing a name show "Missing" in red and will not import.

Tap Import X Clients at the bottom to finish.

What Does Not Import

Invoices, appointments, and payment history. Start fresh in FieldPlexus. Your old system's records stay where they are.

Tip for Property Managers

The template's "Is Parent" and "Parent Name" columns handle parent-child setup in bulk. Mark the property manager row as "Y" for Is Parent. On each property row, enter the property manager's exact name in Parent Name. Done in one import.
